Yuna Kanazawa’s work shines with the creative spirit of ink. Having completed the PhD study in Chinese calligraphy and painting, she has an extensive understanding of ancient ink painting techniques. This, she weds to a modern emphasis on smoothness and fullness. Kanazawa does not paint with painstaking realism––rather, her paintings are suffused with a meditative quality. Landscapes are contemplated in a mood of Eastern stoicism, which is carefully woven amongst the moist clouds and rolling mountains under her pensive hand.
Light is a recurring motif that is constantly in metamorphosis. Kanazawa experiments with it, wrapping sceneries in washes varying from mellow hazes to kaleidoscopic auroras. Enjoyers of Kanazawa’s art are unavoidably drawn to the illuminating beauty of heaven and earth that she depicts, blissfully appreciative of the serenity her paintings bring to one’s mind and soul.
